Typeii Diabetes : To manage diabetes, one should have proper information about diabetes and should follow a diet plan to control blood glucose level.

Diabetes Types

Type 1 Diabetes

In type 1 diabetes (Insulin dependent diabetes), also known as juvenile onset diabetes, patients depends on insulin. Some important points regarding type 1 diabetes are –

1. There is usually sudden onset.2. This form occurs mainly in the younger age group.3. There is an inability of the pancreas to produce adequate amount of insulin. This may be caused by virus or due to autoimmunity. 4. The child is usually underweight. 5. Acidosis is fairly common.

Type 2 Diabetes

In type 2 diabetes (Non-insulin dependent diabetes), also known as adult onset diabetes, patients do not depend on insulin. Some important points regarding type 2 diabetes are –

1. It develops slowly and usually milder and more stable. 2. This form occurs mainly in adults. Women who have had large babies are also prone to develop this type of diabetes later in life.3. Insulin may be produced by pancreas but action is impaired. 4. The person is usually overweight. 5. Acidosis is infrequent. 6. The majority of patients improves with weight loss and is maintained on diet therapy.

Diabetes Diet Plan

1. Dietary calorie should be 60-70% from carbohydrates, 15-20% from protein and 15-25% from fat. The minimum amount of carbohydrates should be 100g to prevent ketosis.2. Fat with high poly unsaturated fatty acids like vegetable oil is preferred (sunflower oil, gingelly oil, corn oil) than animal fat and hydro-generated fat which contain more saturated fatty acids. Fish and chicken are preferred than meat and egg. 3. Simple sugars should be restricted since they are easily absorbed and have a high glycaemic index.4. Whole wheat is preferred to rice because it contains ‘Ascarbose’ which allow carbohydrate to be absorbed slowly.5. Food exchange lists should be followed to prevent hypo and hyperglycaemia. The exchange systems should be followed to avoid monotony, dietary constancy and flexibility.6. Sodium intake is to be no more than 6g daily. Sodium is restricted to 3g in hypertensive diabetic patients.

Typeii Diabetes : As per Ayurveda, the features of diabetes (madhumeha) are the sweetness of urine, weakness, boils, gangrene and drowsiness. Diabetes is a very common disease that can not be completely cured but can be managed (controlled) if proper care is taken. There are mainly two types of diabetes – type 1 diabetes and type 2 diabetes.

Symptoms of Type 1 diabetes

Type 1 diabetes (Insulin dependent or Juvenile diabetes) – The symptoms of type 1 diabetes occur suddenly. The major symptoms of insulin dependent diabetes are excessive thirst; frequent urination; sudden weight loss, for no apparent reason; weakness, drowsiness or exhaustion; sudden vision changes or blurred vision; nausea and vomiting.

Symptoms of Type 2 diabetes

Type 2 diabetes (Non-insulin dependent or Adult-onset diabetes) – The symptoms of type 2 diabetes occur gradually. The major symptoms of non-insulin dependent diabetes are any of the symptoms listed for type 1; tingling or numbness in hands or feet; itching of the skin and genitals; recurring of hard-to-heal skin, gum or urinary tract infections.

Risk factors for Diabetes

People at high risk include the following –

1. Heredity factors – Diabetes appears to have an inherited genetic tendency.2. People over forty years – Type 2 diabetes is most common in middle and old age.3. Overweight – The chance of developing type 2 diabetes doubles with every 20% excess weight. It is believed that excess body fat prevents insulin from working properly.

Dietary Guidelines for Diabetes

1. Sour fruits like tomatoes, jamun, oranges, pineapple and makoy are beneficial.2. Curd made from cow’s milk is highly recommended in diabetes.3. Do not take cereals, sugar and sugar preparations.4. Take diet with a relatively low proportion of carbohydrates.

Typeii Diabetes : Diabetes is growing by 3 percent each year for children and youth

November 14 is celebrated each year as Children’s Day and World Diabetes Day. This year the theme is “Diabetes in children and youth”. Let me take this opportunity to write about diabetes in children.

Diabetes is one of the most common diseases that affect children. It can strike children of any age, even toddlers and babies. If not detected during early childhood, the disease can have deadly consequences or result in serious damage to the brain. Diabetic child is often completely overlooked. This is the time miss-diagnosed as flu or doctors fail to diagnose it at all. Every parent, teacher, doctor involved in child care should be familiar with the warning signs and be alert to the threat.

The warning signs are Frequent urination, Excessive thirst, Increased hunger, Weight, Fatigue, Lack of interest and concentration, Blurred vision, Vomiting and abdominal pain (often mistaken as the flu).

In children with type 2 diabetes, the symptoms may be moderate or not. Type 1 and type 2 diabetes: Diabetes occurs as a result of problems in production and supply of the hormone insulin in the body. The body needs insulin to use energy that is stored in food. When a person has diabetes their body cannot create insulin (Type 1diabetes) or their bodies cannot use the insulin made effectively (type 2diabetes).

Type 1 diabetes is most common type of diabetes in children. However, as a result of increasing childhood obesity and always lifestyles, type 2 diabetes is also increasing rapidly in children and youth. In some countries type 2diabetes has become the most common type of disease in children.

Type 2 diabetes in children is probably under-diagnosed because it may have no symptoms. To prevent Type 2 diabetes in children, emphasis should be laid on physical activity, less frequent activities such as television and views of a healthy diet. If diabetes is diagnosed, paying close attention to all cardiovascular risk factors, as well as prevention is important. We need to fit in the modern industrial city on a healthy way. Diabetes is a serious health problem and expensive and there is much that can do to reduce its impact. The earliest description of diabetes from the Philippines to 2,500 years ago and the role of obesity, frequent behaviour and dietary factors are known in ancient times. What is needed now is concerted public health action against the risk factors for diabetes.

We can do our bit to prevent diabetes and other diseases. Food for children with diabetes is a minor consideration. A dietician will be able to tell you more but it is certain essential that your child has a healthy, balanced diet, high in complex carbohydrates and fibre. It is necessary to be careful Sweets but it need not be 100 per cent from the menu. Some of the foods planning of goals for children with diabetes are the same as for other children. They must eat food that will help them have good general health, normal growth and a healthy weight. But children with diabetes also have to balance their carbohydrate intake with their insulin and activity levels to maintain their levels of blood sugar under control. In addition, children with diabetes should also eat foods that help maintain the level of lipids or fats in the blood (such as Cholesterol and triglycerides) in a healthy range. Food this way may help prevent some of the long-term health problem that can cause diabetes. These days, with huge amounts of food choices, we need to teach them to read the labels of food, especially the carbohydrate content. They must understand the serving size and how to change one food for another.

Children with diabetes face the same challenges of food everyone – largely sticking to healthy eating habits over time. It can be difficult with so many temptations, so it is important to prepare food that your child enjoys. The food may make you plan vary depending on your child’s diabetes, but to help your child Dietician, you can tailor meals to planning your child’s food preferences and eating habits

Typeii Diabetes : Type 1 diabetes, commonly called juvenile diabetes, usually affects children and young adults. It’s generally accepted to be a genetic disorder, though this is not always the case.
The pancreas, responsible for producing insulin necessary to get glucose out of the bloodstream and into the cells of the body, fails to function. This leads to a rise in blood sugar. If it’s not treated, high blood sugar can damage the heart, kidneys and impair circulation to the extremities of the body. Ultimately death results.
While there’s mo single reason for pancreatic failure, it is believed that genetics can predispose a child to getting type 1 diabetes. What is known is that the insulin producing beta cells of the pancreas are destroyed or injured mostly by the body’s own immune system. What triggers this destruction isn’t known.
Genetics does play a part in getting the disease but it is now believed that an improper diet, environmental factors and lifestyle are more responsible in bringing about the disease.
Genetics only accounts for five to ten percent of those who develop diabetes. It is assumed to set the stage for getting the disease. An improper lifestyle could become the trigger that leads to the destruction of the beta cells in the pancreas. Fewer than 10 percent of children and young adults who have a genetic risk factor actually go on to develop type 1 diabetes.
If genetics were the real factor, then identical twins would both develop the disease. But this does not always happen. Another factor that genetics does not always play a part in the development of the disease is based on the three to tenfold increase in type 1 diabetes that has occurred in the world in the past 40 years. This cannot be explained by genetics.
The disease occurs mostly during the puberty phase, usually between 10 to 12 years in girls and 12 to 14 in boys and affects more Caucasian types than other racial groups. This trend is often reversed with type 2 affecting blacks, Hispanics, Asians and native Americans.
Whatever the cause, the beta cells of the pancreas are destroyed making it impossible to produce adequate amounts of insulin necessary to move glucose out of the bloodstream. In order to maintain a healthy life, type 1 diabetics need to rely on insulin injections for blood sugar control for the rest of their lives.
Diabetes consist of two types of diabetes. Of the two, type 1 accounts for only 5 to 10 percent of all cases, the remaining being type 2.
The symptoms of type 1 diabetes are the same as those who have type 2. Excessive urination, excessive thirst or hunger, dryness of the mouth and fatigue are some of the common symptoms. If diabetes is not treated, complications arise. These include blindness, nerve damage to hands and feet, kidney damage and heart disease. Death results as the major organs cannot cope with the sugar overload.
Since juvenile diabetes strikes at an early age, those affected need to take special care of themselves. A natural diet and exercise helps to manage blood sugar better and reduce the frequency and amount of insulin needed to control glucose. Eye, foot and skin care are important. Monitoring of heart and oral health need to be addressed. Natural supplements such as bitter melon and gymnema sylvestre and vanadium can help control blood sugar.
Like type 2 diabetics, type 1 need to watch what they eat. Our foods are highly processed and consist of various chemicals and preservatives that can have a damaging effect on life and may be the one reason why the body’s immune system attacks and destroys the pancreas’ ability to produce insulin.
Taking vitamin and mineral supplements are a necessity as most fruits and vegetables come from farms whose soil is depleted of essential nutrients. Taking a daily intake of 600 to 1200 mg of a high quality fish oil can help prevent the onset of type 1 diabetes.
Much can be done to help children and keep them from developing type 1 diabetes. But taking preventive measures now by changing the diet can help your children to grow up healthy and avoid the devastating effects of this disease.

Typeii Diabetes : There are different diabetes types to be aware of, especially if you think that you may be at risk for developing diabetes. Here is a brief overview of the most commonly-experienced Diabetes Mellitus types:

Type 1 diabetes mellitus:

Gestational diabetes mellitus:

Type 2 diabetes mellitus:

The different diabetes types all have one thing in common: they are greatly lessened in severity when combated with a healthy water-rich diet and daily physical movement. Over 25 percent of all Americans have been labeled as being completely sedentary. We have become the fattest and laziest nation on the planet here in the US and the all-time record-high disease rates are showing that clearly.

In addition to the more than 15 million reported cases of diabetes mellitus currently in the US, there are also more than 57 million people who are believed to have pre diabetes. Moreover, there are an additional one million plus new cases of diabetes mellitus reported annually in the US alone.

Given that the main causes of diabetes mellitus are poor dietary and lacking exercise standards, one needs only to initiate a healthy type 2 diabetes diet and get daily exercise for about a half an hour in order to cease the development in most cases. Take the initiative and act today to alleviate the development of diabetes mellitus before you have to.

Today is your chance to turn your life around and begin living the vibrantly-healthful life that you have always dreamed about. It is a joyous experience to know that every day you are getting stronger and more vital. Thwart the development of all diabetes types with positive lifestyle enhancements beginning right now!

Typeii Diabetes : The starting point when looking at diabetes is to understand that it is a chronic condition which is typified by a distorted metabolism and raised blood sugar levels which give rise to lower levels of insulin. It is also important to note that the symptoms of diabetes can mask themselves to look like many other disorders and the condition can thus go undetected for years. Screening for this particular condition is important because early diagnosis and prompt treatment greatly improve the quality of life for those who are suffering from this condition. There are 2 major types of diabetes that those people who are unfamiliar with the condition normally find it difficult to separate and these are type 1 and type 2 diabetes.Type 1 diabetes is caused by the destruction of pancreatic beta cells which itself is the result of an auto-immune attack. It cannot be prevented and accounts for about ten percent of all cases of diabetes in Europe and North America. This type of diabetes can be seen in both children and adults and is what people are referring to when they talk about juvenile diabetes. This form of the disease can be very effectively treated by monitoring blood glucose levels and adding insulin to the body. Both types of diabetes can require supplementary insulin and diabetic coma can follow if the body’s insulin level falls too quickly. In addition to taking insulin, the best form of management for type 1 diabetes is diet and exercise. Individuals with this condition need to be aware of their body glucose level and ensure that insulin is topped up as necessary by injection or use of an insulin pump.Unlike type 1 diabetes, the type 2 form of this disease occurs because of insulin resistance or insulin sensitivity and the body’s reduced insulin production. This form of diabetes is common in people who suffer from obesity, are advanced in age, have a family history of the condition and who do not take enough exercise. Individuals suffering from type 1 diabetes have to take medication because their bodies are unable to create insulin. However, type 2 diabetics have several different choices when it comes to controlling their condition. Exercise and diet might well be sufficient to control type 2 diabetes although oral medication and insulin might also be part of a treatment plan. There are a lot of different treatment plans available but the most important element of the equation is the patient. This may well be a chronic disease but that does not mean that it has to be a lost cause and there are various ways in which you can keep the body healthy when you are a diabetic. In fact, the diabetic himself is the key player when it comes to fighting the side effects of this all too common disease.

Typeii Diabetes : Diabetes seems to be spreading like wildfire in the world today. And the numbers seem to grow right along with the rate of obesity. This appears to indicate that many cases of Diabetes are due to an unhealthy diet and are totally preventable. And in most cases, reversible, simply by changing to a healthier diet and lifestyle.

Diabetes is defined as a chronic disease marked by high levels of sugar in the blood. There are three major types of Diabetes:

* Type 1 Diabetes - This type of Diabetes is usually diagnosed in childhood. Many patients are diagnosed when they are older than age 20. In Type 1, the body makes little or no insulin, and daily injections of insulin are needed. The exact cause is unknown. Genetics, viruses, and autoimmune problems may possibly play a role.

* Type 2 Diabetes - This type of Diabetes is much more common than Type 1. It usually occurs in adulthood. In Type 2, the pancreas does not make enough insulin to keep blood glucose levels normal, often because the body does not respond well to insulin. Type 2 Diabetes is becoming more common due to the increasing rate of obesity and lack of exercise.

* Gestational Diabetes - This type of Diabetes indicates high blood glucose that develops at any time during pregnancy in women who do not have Diabetes.

People with Type 2 Diabetes are most likely to respond well to natural alternative Diabetes treatments which include regular exercise, a reduction in the consumption of processed foods, and a return to a diet rich in fresh vegetables.

Typeii Diabetes : I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes about six years ago. I was at the doctor’s office because my thyroid was swollen, and he said my bloodwork showed very high sugar levels. My mother has diabetes, which started later on in her life, and doctors have said to me, “Well, either you, your sister, or your brother will have diabetes,” and I thought, “That will be me!” My sister’s is perfect, my brother’s is perfect, and of course I have it.

I went to a new doctor about three years ago and she changed my medicine entirely, because she wasn’t happy with my sugar levels and wanted to try something different. We tried one that made me feel really sick, but I’m on something different now that controls my sugar but doesn’t make me sick.

I test my blood sugar every day, once a day, usually in the morning before I take my medicine. I just had my A1C level tested and my doctor told me it was 6.1 — she said it’s perfect. I’m really happy about that because for so long my numbers weren’t where they were supposed to be. So I think the medication has really done it.

Besides taking medications, though, my life hasn’t changed that much. My diabetes is well managed and the medication pretty much takes care of it. Since my diagnosis, I’m not drinking sodas with sugar, you know, things like that, and not eating sweets. I look for sugar-free now, everything I get.

Sheila

My type 2 diabetes was diagnosed because I kept urinating. I couldn’t work; every five or ten minutes I was running to the restroom. I can’t say I was totally surprised because everyone on my dad’s side of the family has it – his mother, his siblings, and now me and my younger sister.

I knew that food habits had to change when I got diagnosed. My grandmother was a diabetic for 40 or 50 years, and she really took care of herself. When I would visit her in the summer she would teach me how to cook. She would say, “Fix my plate,” and she would hand me a cup, a drinking cup like a tea cup, and she would say “Put my peas in the cup. Don’t fill the cup up.” That’s how she measured her servings. And she was really good about it.
I test my blood sugar every morning. Some days I take it twice a day and I alternate from the lunch to the dinner time.

At the beginning of the year I lost 20 pounds. I don’t believe when people say, “If you lose weight, you can do without the medicine.” I know people who have lost weight — a lot of weight — and they still need medicine for their blood sugar. But I do know that taking care of yourself is important. I have been doing more physical activity, and I’d have to say I do feel good.

Sharon

I had a brother with diabetes, and I was aware of the symptoms. So when I started being thirsty all the time and waking up quite a few times in the night to go to the restroom, I thought that I better get tested. Sure enough, my doctor told me that I definitely had type 2 diabetes. And, of course, nobody wants to be a diabetic, but he pretty much told me that it’s controllable if you do what you need to do. Then he started me on medicines right away.

Some weeks are harder than other weeks. When I was first diagnosed, I thought, “Oh, there goes everything. I can’t eat this. I can’t eat that. I can’t have sweets.” That was the biggest thing. But I learned that I can have a sweet every now and then, just as long as I don’t go overboard.

I changed my activity level after I found out that I had diabetes. I love sweets and I wasn’t as active as I needed to be. I was taking medicine and changed my eating habits, and now I try to walk more. When I go shopping I park further out so that I have to walk in. When it’s feasible, I’ll take the steps instead of the elevator. So I have increased my exercise, but even at that sometimes I fall off. Right now, it’s down to twice a week, but I’m trying to do more again.

I hear about people who stop taking their diabetes medicine, but I wouldn’t do that. My blood sugars are good. I may have missed a day of medicine because maybe I forgot, but never two or three days because I just know that I feel good and I’m too afraid to go the other route. I don’t want to develop diabetic retinopathy or neuropathy or anything like that.

I hate that I have diabetes, but I’m awfully glad that I have something that treats it. I don’t think I’ll ever be a person who say, “Oh, I’m glad I have diabetes and I can work out all the time” — never that! But my future, I think, looks pretty good to me right now.

Troy

I had my doctor test me for diabetes every time I went for a checkup, because my mother and her father both had type 1 diabetes. Between my sedentary lifestyle and bad eating habits, I thought I’d better keep an eye on my blood sugar.

One of those days he came in and said “Well, I think we better start treatment.” So I wasn’t really surprised. I figured it would come along eventually with my family history and my lifestyle. But I knew it was time to be more serious about dealing with it.

Not long ago, my new doctor gave me a really thorough physical and decided to increase the dose of the medicine I was taking, and she added a second medicine. She said the two together would help to control my blood sugar better, and it has.

I have not made a lot of changes to my diet, but I have cut down on sugars and I don’t eat desserts any more. Actually, my diet was never really that bad – there was just too much of it! So I have cut back on the portions, too I’d thought that giving up desserts would be a lot harder than it was. I discovered quickly that I didn’t miss it at all, but I miss rice a lot.

At first, my diagnosis didn’t change my exercise habits. I started to do more exercise a few years ago, when my doctor increased the dose of my medicine. She told me, “You need to start changing the way you live because at some point these medicines may not work for you and then we’re going to have to look at insulin injections.” It was kind of a surprise to me that I might be headed in that direction, because I didn’t think that could happen with type 2 diabetes. So I decided to start working out.

I think I’m living with diabetes very well. It’s not something that consumes my thoughts most of the time, because doesn’t really impact my life much. I just have to be sure and take my medicines. I think about exercise as something I do for my general health and to lose weight – something I’d do with or without diabetes. I know that losing weight will help my diabetes, too, but I didn’t go into it with a goal of improving my diabetes, really. I feel like as long as I’m in regular contact with my doctor to keep an eye on things, that I’m not going to let it rule me.

Lauren

I expected to get type 2 diabetes. When I had gestational diabetes during my pregnancy, my physician told me it’s not a matter of if, but when. I’ve heard about diabetes all my life because my grandmother and my aunt both died from diabetes-related issues.

One summer I was drinking a lot of sugary drinks. My vision started getting blurry, and I just knew. So I saw my doctor, and my blood sugar numbers were off the charts. So I cut out the sweet drinks and when I went on medication, my numbers came back down.

After my diagnosis, I started eating healthier. Not eating fast food as much. We always ate a lot of fast food, but now if we go out to eat, I make healthier choices.

I checked my blood sugar a lot when I was first diagnosed, but not as much now – maybe four times a week, just to make sure I’m on target. I do it mornings to get a fasting blood sugar level, and then sometimes to see how I react to a certain food or something, like, an hour after I eat.

I try to walk more places than usual or just get out and walk the dog – basically, just be more mobile instead of sedentary.

I’m hopeful that I can keep myself healthy and not have circulatory problems or other diabetes complications, but I know that have to be a part of it. My mom had a massive stroke nine years ago and was paralyzed on her left side. She had just been diagnosed two years before that with diabetes, and she stopped taking her medicine. So I could see what the future could hold for me if I don’t take care of myself.
